Meet the team of Crème de la Crème

Meet the team of Crème de la Crème

We are delighted to annunce that Sajeela Siriwarden, Sam Leatherby and James Scott reached the final of the BBC’s newest professional cooking show, Bake Off Crème de la Crème winning the third place victory.

The final, which was held on Tuesday 17 May, saw three teams make pastries for 100 people, with each creating a showpiece banquet complete with six different desserts. Team Sajeela created a stunning winter wonderland themed fairground complete with a helter skelter and macaroon cheeseburgers.

The 23-year-old Sam Leatherby after leaving school with a part-time job at Halfords, applied for a chef apprentice programme with Hilton in 2011. He started at Heathrow Hilton and towards the end of his six-month placement won a competition to join the apprentice programme at the London Hilton on Park Lane. Over the past five years he has progressed to the position of Junior Sous Chef working through the company’s apprenticeship scheme.

The second young professional is 29-year-old James Scott. Although not an apprentice, he joined Northampton Hilton in 2010 and then the London Hilton on Park Lane as a pastry chef in 2012. What we should be applauding is not just the achievement of the three people including their team leader, Sajeela Siriwardena, but the Chef Apprentice Programme and the learning and development training we provide to aspiring young people who join our company.

Sajeela Siriwardena also started his career in the Hilton in Colombo, Sri Lanka. A reflection of a global company training ‘the world’ and competing on the world stage in all corners.

Michael Shepherd, General Manager of London Hilton on Park Lane, said: “This is an incredible achievement and highlights the progress of two very young individuals who have learnt their profession by working in our great organisation at Hilton".
